Quiraing

Staffin, Trotternish, Isle of Skye, Eilean á Chèo, Highland, Scotland

An unusual basalt landform on the eastern face of Meall na Suiramach.

The area is the northernmost summit of the Trotternish escarpment, formed as flood basalt spread out as a result of a volcanic eruption.

Vesicles within the basalt can contain a range of zeolite minerals including analcime, chabazite, erionite, heulandite, levyne, mesolite, offretite, phillipsite, saponite, stilbite, thomsonite, etc – as well as members of their various groups.

There is a nearby quarry called Quiraing Road quarry which may be the source of some of the specimens listed as being from Quiraing, but this is just a locale that refers to a broad area rather than a specific outcrop.
