Sandbeds Gill Mine

Bassenthwaite, Allerdale, Cumbria, England, UK

Sandbed Gills mine consists of two small lead workings near the top of Sandbeds Gill.

No products were found matching your selection.

According to mindat the site was dug by a single miner, William Francis, who dug for an underground vein but abandoned the digging after 49 yards.

A small underground working and dumps do still exist at the site.

It is worth making sure you don’t get the names mixed up here; this site is Sandbed Gills Mine, not Sandbed Mine or the Old Sandbed Mine – both in Allerdale.

There is little information about this mine online, so it seems anyone with real interest in the mine might want to pick up a copy of the book on the site from Lake District Minerals.
