Hilton Mine

Scordale, Murton, Eden, Cumbria, England, UK

Hilton Mine is a former lead mine which has been worked for a range of minerals including galena, barite, and witherite.

Hilton Mine is now based within a military firing range, the Warcop training area.

Mindat lists 25 minerals from the site, with particular highlight on the barite and fluorite from the site. Some of the fluorite from the site is considered amongst the best of the British fluorite, perhaps some of the best fluorite in the world.

I do not know whether any public access to the site is available but this would be conditional based on when the firing range is inactive!
