Brownley Hill Mine

Nenthead, Alston Moor, Eden, Cumbria, England, UK

A former lead-zinc mine in the Nenthead area.

The mine is the type locality for two minerals – alstonite and brianyoungite. 40 minerals are listed from the site according to Mindat.

There are several websites linked below with some excellent photos from an exploration of the mine.

The site was worked from around the 1730s, until the middle of the 1850s. It was then worked sporadically until the 1960s.
