Mindat lists over 300 mineral species as occurring in Extremadura, with it being the type locality for one mineral – Calderónite, named after the Spanish mineralogist and university professor Salvador Calderón y Arana.

Extremadura is mineralogically notable for its extensive granitic and metamorphic terrains, which host a wide variety of mineral species.

Extremadura exploits and has historically exploited deposits of tin, tungsten, lithium, iron, industrial minerals, granite, and aggregates. In recent years, lithium resources in particular have attracted increasing attention due to their importance for modern battery technologies.

Mining has played a significant role in the historical and economic development of Extremadura, particularly during the 19th and 20th centuries and as early as the Roman times.

There is also an UNESCO Global Geopark that I’m sure is well worth a visit, UNESCO Global Geopark Villuercas-Ibores-Jara
