Schellkopf

Brenk, Brohltal, Ahrweiler, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

Schellkopf is an active phonolite quarry on the Schellköpfchen mountain, directly west of the small town of Brenk.

The site may also be known as Phonolithwerk Brenk, and appears to be operated by AG für Steinindustrie.

The quarry was first leased in 1898, and was taken over in 1994 by AG für Steinindustrie.

Mindat lists 37 mineral species from the site, including two for which it is the type locality – brenkite and vandermeerscheite.

I suspect the site will primarily be of interest to micro mineral and zeolite mineral collectors, although the vandermeerscheite from the site will be of interest to radioactive mineral collectors too.
