Whitestone Quarry

Bovey Tracey, Teignbridge, Devon, England, UK

Whitstone Quarry is a former quarry near Bovey Tracey – very limited information is available on the site.

The further reading section here is perhaps a little bit of a misnomer, as I wrote the Mindat page.

I obtained a specimen labelled from this locale and did a bit of research on the site:

It came with two labels; both list the locale as ‘Whitstone Quarry’, one stating ‘Bovey Tracey’. There was no mindat page.

DevonRIGS listed a single line of info:

“Whitstone Quarry Bovey Tracey SX815792 Exposures of contact between Dartmoor Granite and shaly hornfels (Combe shale) SX87NW1”

The grid reference led me to 50.60046 -3.67578, on the grounds of “Whitestone Farm”, just north of Bovey Tracey. The National Library of Scotlands old maps service for the area shows Whitestone Quarry.
