Salton Sea
Imperial County, California, USA
A shallow saline lake lying on the San Andreas fault.
Showing the single result
The lake began to shrink in the 90s as agriculture used more and more water, and this led to toxic dust and air quality problems – a more complex issue than I would be able to describe here, but the Wikipedia page linked below has a good writeup.
Mindat lists 55 minerals from the site, one of which it is the type locality for – saltonseaite. The most common mineral is likely to be halite, of course.
