Limberg Quarries

Sasbach am Kaiserstuhl, Emmendingen, Freiburg Region, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

Limberg Quarries is a group of seven abandoned quarries in a nature reserve.

The best writeup on this site is “Der Limburgit von Sasbach am Kaiserstuhl
und seine hydrothermale Mineralführung” by Guido Lorent.

Unfortunately, it is in German and does not translate very well.

The quarries were simply numbered 1-7, some of which produced interesting minerals and others of which are covered in less detail.

The site did produce some interesting minerals overall,  including two for which it is the type locality – Faujasite-Mg and Faujasite-Na.

Other interesting minerals include augite, montmorillonite, offretite, phillipsite, todorokite – mostly micro minerals.
