Below the product listings, I’ve gone into a little depth about mineral specimens from Indonesia – famous locales and specimens, and those that are most well known amongst collectors.

Indonesia is an incredibly mineral rich country, sitting on huge reserves of gold, copper, nickel and cobalt – accounting for more than half of global nickel production in an incredible growth spurt. Indonesia has actually gone from producing 26% of the worlds Nickel to 57% in under a decade.

Large deposits of other minerals are exploited – chromium, coal, copper, gold, lead, silver, tin, tungsten and zinc.

Indonesian agents have been making large pushes into the online mineral supply market too, although not without some teething issues regarding pricing, use of misleading trade names, and sometimes being seen as spammy.

Indonesian petrified wood, opalised wood, the toxic ‘bumblebee jasper‘ and the botryoidal chalcedony ‘grape agate’ are now common finds on the online mineral marketplaces. The misleading ‘agni magnitite‘ and often smoked opal are also commonplace, unfortunately.
