Imiter Mine

Imiter mining district, Tinghir Cercle, Tinghir Province, Drâa-Tafilalet Region, Morocco

Large silver mine near Ait Brahim, which produced over 200 tons of silver in 2017.

Mindat lists 66 mineral species from the site – one for which it is the type locality – imiterite. Not something I’d heard of before, it is a silver-mercury sulphate mineral.

The silver ore is apparently of especially high quality, with native silver wire being relatively well known from the site.

Silver and cobalt minerals are the more interesting species found, including (in my lowly opinion), some of the worlds best proustite micro specimens.
