Pyrite and Quartz on matrix
A nice little specimen of Iron Pyrite and Quartz on matrix rock. Large Pyrite chunks and very small sugary Quartz crystals sitting on a grey and black backing stone.
Pyrite is also known as ‘Fools Gold’, as its shape and colour have confused miners and gold panners for centuries. It is, of course, Iron crystals, rather than Gold.
This piece measures 75x65x50MM approximately and has really nicely formed Iron Pyrite crystals with interesting striations. These types of pieces I tend to refer to as a ‘bit of a dust catcher’, so it might be worth having a look for a small display box, too…
