Polished Paesina limestone slices

Paesina limestone is an unusual form of Limestone with a huge amount of lines, marks and fractures, giving it an appearance similar to picture stone.

It is mined in the Florentine hills around Tuscany, Italy. There are other 'picture stones' from around the world, some of which are comprised of entirely different materials - rhyolites, mudstones, etc - however, this source has been active since the 16th century.
