Hypersthene is a form of enstatite with an unusual property - it has an iridescence in certain lights at certain angles.
Most people will be familiar with Labradorite or Rainbow Moonstone, with their bright flashes of colour, but Hypersthene is a little different. The stone has a dark to black background, with flashes of a grey to grey-silver colour over the top.
This gives it almost a 'modern' look - it makes me think in a strange way of two tone 'minimalism'.
These cabochons are cut to maximise the sheen, but the angle does still have to be right to really show it up.
