Diamonds: Eric Bruton

A good introduction to diamonds, including sections on diamond locales, methods of mining and extraction, historical diamonds, sorting, cutting, grading - it's a very detailed look into the world of the diamond market.

However, it dates from 1978 and this should be considered - while it is a good read and taught me some things, it pre-dates many techniques and technologies, methods of synthetic diamond production, methods of fakery, and, importantly, the Kimberley process.

It is a well written and easy to read book, though, and may form a first step before heading into more modern diamond textbooks or whitepapers.
