Hendre Quarry

Ceiriog Ucha, Wrexham, Wales, UK

An abandoned quarry off the B4500 near Tregeiriog.

This is a bit of an inconvenient locale – it appears there are several Hendre(s) in Wales, and at least two Hendre Quarries.

The Hendre referred to here is between Tregeiriog and Pandy on the B4500. It is listed on NLS old maps as “Hendre” but appears to be a farm rather than a settlement. The former quarry is on its lands. Link to old map.

This quarry provided some interesting micro minerals, including anatase, brookite, and several uncommon rare earth minerals such as monazite and xenotime.
