Machen quarry

Machen, Caerphilly, Wales, UK

Machen Quarry is a working aggregate quarry exploiting dolomitised Limestone which has also produced a range of mineral specimens.

The quarry is quite interesting on a mineralogical level, having produced some supergene minerals and some rare species too, including anglesite, scotlandite, and fraipontite. Fine specimens of cerussite and hydrozincite have also been found.

The Scottish Geology Trust linked below has an excellent geological writeup of the site, and is highly recommended for anyone with an interest in the site.
