Wet Grooves Mine
Carperby-cum-Thoresby, Richmondshire, North Yorkshire, England, UK
Wet Grooves Mine is an abandoned mine and associated spoil heaps west of Leyburn.
This site may also be known as Wet Grooves Mine or Wet Groves Mine.
The unusual name may be a reference to older mining practices, where small shallow surface workings may have resembled shallow grooves.
It is a former lead mine, with evidence of historical working for centuries.
There is a good exploration of the mine on the 28DaysLater website linked below.
Good quality specimens of aurichalcite, baryte, calcite and fluorite have been found at the site.
