Thurstaston Beach

Wirral, Merseyside, England, UK

Thurstaston Beach is a sand and shingle beach known for microminerals found in glacial erratic boulders.

The boulders are found in (and eroded from) a boulder clay outcrop, and cavities in these boulders have been known to produce fine micromineral specimens.

Mindat lists 23 minerals from the site.

I have seen a very nice micro of actinolite from this site, but I can’t say whether collecting at the site is still feasible – many of the collections I deal with are already decades old so I see very little on whether the sites are still accessible.
