Croft Quarry is one of the largest excavations in Europe, and local mining has occurred since the first century – a Roman granite quarry used to construct parts of the Fosse Way.
While Croft Quarry is on private land and it is unlikely for anyone to be granted permission to visit for minerals, if you are nearby, it is well worth a visit to Croft Hill, which overlooks it. Hell of a view.
