I live reasonably close to this locale, and it is one of my favourite English placenames.

Numerous languages collide here; in brythonic or celtic, ‘bre’, ‘bryn’, or ‘brí’ means ‘hill’. In old English and Gaelic, ‘dun’, ‘dún’ both mean hill. So – there’s a good chance ‘Breedon on the Hill’ means ‘HillHill on the Hill’.

Minerals found at this site include baryte, calcite, chalcopyrite, galena, malachite, sphalerite, and wulfenite.

There is a short history of the quarry at the ‘Special Aggregates’ link below.
