Bardon Hill Quarry

Bardon, North West Leicestershire, Leicestershire, England, UK

Bardon Hill Quarry is an active aggregate quarry in Leicestershire which periodically dug through areas of mineralisation.

The site is a SSSI (site of special scientific interest) for intrusive and extrusive Precambrian strata; it is a potential feature of the proposed Charnwood Geopark in the future.

There is no public access to the site, although I was given a quick tour of the quarry a few years ago as we picked out stones for a local war memorial which were donated by Bardon Aggregate – the site now seems to be owned by Holcim.

The only specimens I have ever seen from Bardon Hill Quarry were dated to the 1970s or earlier; I do not expect many specimens to come to market in future other than those from older collections.
