Wheal Exmouth

Wheal Exmouth is an ancient lead mine which also produced zinc and silver.

It was worked from around 1810 until the 1890s. It is quite an interesting site as an 1850s engine house has been converted into a rather unusual house – see the OUGS site linked below for a photo.
The mine was combined with another local mines – Wheal Adams – they were incorporated together in 1853.
There are surface tops between the road and river, but it is worth pointing out this site is high in arsenic.
