Hemerdon Tungsten Mine

Hemerdon Tungsten Mine (formerly Drakelands Mine) is one of the UK’s only tungsten mines, near to Plymouth, Devon.

It produces fine Scorodite, Wolframite, Ferberite, and Cassiterite specimens.

This mine has several given names, which are probably historical – including Hemerdon Tungsten Mine, Hemerdon Stock Works, Hemerdon Ball, Hemerdon Bal.

It seems most of the material from Hemerdon Tungsten Mine is now labelled as ferberite.

The mine was operated as recently as 2015, with the owner looking for additional investment for further exploration and mining. This means it is unlikely any visits will be permitted.

Update: 2025 – the mine is now known as Hemerdon Tungsten Mine and is likely to be reopened.
