Showing the single result
Rogerley Mine is situated inside Rogerley Quarry, an abandoned Limestone quarry worked in the 19th century for aggregate.
It is the first commercial specimen mine in the UK, worked for fluorite specimens which are amongst the best in the world.
Truth be told, I could write 500 words and never cover the site in as much detail as the UK Mining Ventures site will, so if you are interested, its probably easier to just go have a read of their history of the site.
The UKMV writeup even covers specific pockets in which minerals were found, and the naming of these pockets.
