Greenlaws Mine

Daddry Shield, Stanhope, County Durham, England, UK

Greenlaws Mine is a former lead mine worked for fluorite.

No products were found matching your selection.

The mine is known for fine fluorite specimens in a wide range of colours from golden-amber to a blue-grey.

A team of explorers and collectors have been clearing parts of the collapsed shafts and have broken through to the ‘Great Limestone Flats’, which allows for the examination and clearing of the former mine.

A video and excellent article on Mindat goes into some detail on this, showing excellent specimens of fluorite in situ.

Unfortunately it appears a visit from collectors caused some damage to the site in the past, and now visits are less accepted than once before.
