Alderley Edge Mines

The Alderley Edge Mines is a combined set of mines worked during antiquity, and later from the 1690s to 1920s.

Archaeological evidence of Bronze age copper working and Roman mining have been discovered at the site.

The Derbyshire Caving Club has permission to visit the mines and have carried out numerous explorations and tours.

There are a number of mines considered to be part of the Alderley Edge mines, including:

  • Brynlow Mine
  • Cobalt Mine
  • Engine Vein
  • Hough Level
  • New Venture
  • Pillar and Doc Mine (possibly Doc Mine and Pillar Mine)
  • Twin Shafts
  • West Mine
  • Wood Mine
