Rothenberg quarry

Bell, Mendig, Mayen-Koblenz, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

Basalt quarry in a scoria zone, directly west of Laacher See and north west of Mendig. Well known for micro minerals.

Mindat lists 60 mineral species from this site, including two for which it is the type locality – ferri-obertiite and oxyphlogopite. It is likely the site will primarily be of interest to micro mineral collectors.

It is important to use the full locality information here; there is another Rothenberg Quarry in the Rhineland-Palatinate area of Germany. I have made this mistake myself!
