Nerother Kopf

Neunkirchen, Daun, Daun, Vulkaneifel, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

The Nerother Kopf is the hill of an extinct volcano; this locality refers to the quarry on the south side of the volcano.

The site may have a few other names, including ‘Lavasandtagebau Oberstadtfeld 12’, the name by which it is labelled on maps.

Mindat only has listings for five mineral species from the site – augite, biotite, hematite, rhonite, and volborthite. I suspect the Volborthite will be best known from the locale.

Kahlenberg, a nearby locality, has similar mineralogy, and it is likely there is more overlap than is currently listed on mindat.
