Löhley

Üdersdorf, Daun, Vulkaneifel, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

Löhley is a group of quarries near Üdersdorf, including Steinbruch Slabik, Steinbruch Meerfeld, and Steinbruch Scheerer.

Mindat lists 77 minerals from the site, including five for which it is the type locality, Batiferrite, Lileyite, Noonkanbahite, Schüllerite, and Steiningerite.

It is a little unclear to me whether the three quarries (Steinbruch Slabik, Steinbruch Meerfeld, and Steinbruch Scheerer) are all a part of what is marked on maps as Löhley Basaltbruch, or there are three quarries at different locations. I suspect the quarry now called Löhley Basaltbruch overtook the three named quarries.

Fine micros of perovskite and leucite are found here, as are barium rich lamprophyllite group members including Schüllerite.

The site now appears to be operated by Scherer Natursteinwerke GmbH & Co. KG.
