Feuerberg

Hohenfels-Essingen, Gerolstein, Vulkaneifel, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

Feuerberg refers to a basalt quarry near the small town of Hohenfels-Essingen, best known for a range of micro zeolite minerals.

I wasn’t actually able to find a huge amount of information on the quarry, unfortunately – there are several quarries around Hohenfels-Essingen, and my German is rather poor.

The site currently seems to be active, and operated by Scherer Baustoffe.

Mindat lists 41 mineral species from the site, including one of which it is the type locality. I suspect this site is going to primarily be of interest to micromount and zeolite mineral collectors, as there are many quality micro specimens floating around.
