Arensberg

Zilsdorf, Walsdorf, Gerolstein, Vulkaneifel, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

A former basalt quarry and archaeological site, now a tourist site.

Mindat lists 30 mineral species from the site, with plenty of zeolite minerals known to occur here.

The quarry was in basalt, and primarily operated between 1922 and 1954, with a brief stint in the 1980s. Unfortunately, quarrying in the 1920s led to the removal of the historical buildings on the site, including a chapel and cemetery and a small medieval castle.

More recently, it was opened as a tourist attraction as part of the Vulkaneifel geopark.
