Clara Mine

Oberwolfach, Ortenaukreis, Freiburg Region, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

A baryte/fluorite mine near Wolfach. To mineral collectors, Clara Mine/Grube Clara is one of the most famous locales in the world.

The site is famous for both the variety of the minerals found here, and the fine mineralisation that occurs. It is also one of the few mines that allows for collecting from dumps for a fee.

Mindat lists nearly 500 minerals that occur at the site – with it being the type locality for 18. Many of the minerals are rare or uncommon.

The mine dumps are a particular favourite of German micromineral collectors as there are a great many well formed micros found on the site.

The Oberwolfach mining and mineral museum nearby has display featuring over 200 minerals from the site.
