Minerals from Iceland

This tag collects together all the current minerals we have in stock that come from Iceland.

Below the product listings, I’ve gone into a little depth about mineral specimens from Iceland – famous locales and specimens, and those that are most well known amongst collectors.

Iceland is largely volcanic, and while it doesn’t have huge mineral reserves like some other countries, its unique geology has still produced a range of interesting mineral specimens.

Iceland’s basaltic lavas often contain zeolites — minerals like heulandite, stilbite, scolecite, and chabazite — found in cavities within the volcanic rock. These can form attractive crystal groups, making them popular with collectors.

The island is also known for its excellent examples of calcite, including the famous Iceland spar – a clear, optical variety used historically for its double refraction. Good specimens can still be found in old basalt quarries.

Obsidian is relatively common across Iceland, with sharp black volcanic glass found in many areas. The mineral is a reminder of the country’s volcanic activity and has been used historically for tools.

Although it doesn’t have the sheer variety of mineral species found elsewhere, Iceland’s mineral offerings have a distinct volcanic character, making it an intriguing location for mineral and crystal enthusiasts.

Collecting from much of the country is illegal.

We do have some other specimens from Honduras, check the links below.
