Ballygown Mine

A former Zinc carbonate mine which was worked to produce zinc oxide (calamine lotion).

It was built sometime after 1861, and eventually closed around 1981.
The spoil heaps left on the site were picked over for hemimorphite over many years, and it is unlikely further specimens will be found here.
Mindat lists 25 minerals from the site including cerussite, hemimorphite, pyrite and sphalerite.
