Pyromorphite specimens from Roughton Gill Mine, Cumbria

Green Pyromorphite crystals on matrix from the Roughton Gill mine.

Pyromorphite is a lead based mineral that was once used as a lead ore - so careful handling is recommended.

The Roughton Gill mine eventually closed in 1894 after centuries of the local area being exploited for lead and copper - in fact, the mine is estimated to have been in operation since around 1319!

  • #5 - 62x40x39.3MM - a small cabinet specimen with quite a fractured Quartz matrix and plenty of light green Pyromorphite.
