Polished Goniatite fossils

Polished Goniatite fossils from Morocco

These Goniatite fossils are a nice little gift, small and polished on one side to show off the internal details of the goniatite fossils.

Goniatites are a relative of ammonites. These pieces are Devonian in age and are quarried around the Atlas Mountains of Morocco.

These aren't the highest quality of fossils - either in terms of fossil quality or the shaping/polishing of the material. They are often round, but sometimes oval or a teardrop kind of shape. Sometimes sold as 'goniatite buttons', although I'm really not sure why - they aren't drilled!

The rear of the fossils is not polished; they are also sometimes glued back together as they broke when extracted - these repairs are typically only visible under UV light.
