Phantom Amethyst points and clusters
Nice phantom Amethyst points and clusters, an unusual type of Quartz with a 'ghost' of another crystal inside. These are typically rather hard to photograph but I've done my best!
The 'phantom' is essentially caused by inclusions or fractures along the natural growth lines of the Amethyst. In a lot of cases, it is visible as the inclusions are coloured, usually by iron staining.
Our current stock includes:
- #1 - 41x21.5x15MM - a clear, smoky, and purple piece of Quartz with a phantom fairly visible; it is possibly best described as colour zoning.
- #2 - 50x25x13.7MM - a rather pale piece; the 'phantom' in this is quite difficult to see, although it is easier against direct light.
- #3 - 14.7x12.3x10.6MM - a small double point with a fine Goethite phantom in both points, visible from multiple angles.
- #4 - 24.5x19.5x16MM - a single point with a fine Goethite phantom visible from multiple angles.
- #5 - 23.6x11.9x11.5MM - a single point with a colour zoning phantom from various angles.
- #6 - 20x12x8.5MM - another small point with a colour zoning phantom.
- #7 - 38x28.9x28MM - a druzy cluster with golden and black Goethite inclusions causing several distinct phantoms.
- #8 - 23.7x22.1x17.2MM - a nice piece of druzy with black lines and patches caused by Goethite inclusions.
- #9 - 31.4x22.5x20.2MM - a nice piece of druzy with black lines and triangular patches caused by Goethite inclusions.
- #10 - 46.5x31.2x28.2MM - a nice piece with fine black lines creating very visible phantoms along many of the points.
