Leptaena depressa brachiopod fossils
Small specimen pieces of Leptaena depressa from the Wrens Nest nature reserve in Dudley, UK.
These pieces are from the Silurian - Wenlock series, around 427-433 million years old, and are a very distinctive type of brachiopod.
The brachiopods themselves typically measure around 25-30MM wide, with a single piece on each matrix specimen. However, there are often numerous other fossils present on each piece, especially corals.
