Polished Ichthyosaur bone slices - cut and polished fossil bone
Cut and polished slices of fossilised Ichthyosaur bone from around the world.
Ichthyosaur was a marine reptile which looked quite a lot like a dolphin or other cetacean. It lived between 251 million to 65.5 million years ago, and is often mistaken for a dinosaur - it is not a dinosaur.
This is quite an unusual way of preparing the fossil and is typically done when other forms of preperation will not work well, or only a thin, weathered section of bone/bones remain.
Our current stock includes:
- #1 - 77x62.4x8.2MM - found at Charmouth, UK. Partially fluorescent under 365nm. This slice shows two partial ribs and three partial vertebra.
