Cerussite specimens from Kinniside Mine, Cleator Moor, Cumbria, UK

A reasonable specimen of delicate Cerussite crystals on matrix from Kinniside Mine, a small lead mine in Cumbria.

Cerussite is a lead mineral, please take care to wash your hands after handling it.

I wasn't able to find much out about Kinniside mine other than its location and a brief description:

Perhaps 18th century; closed 1833, but reworked later.
Kinniside Lode, argentiferous galena and cerussite, etc.

Adams, John: 1988: Mines of the Lake District Fells: Dalesman Books (Lancaster, Lancashire):: ISBN 0 85206 931 6

Other minerals listed at the location include Baryte, Fluorite, Galena, Leadhillite, Pyromorphite and Wulfenite, with the barytes apparently being rather fine.

We currently have a single specimen in stock:

  • #1 - 96.1x63.9x34MM - an area of fine grey-white Cerussite crystals over an iron stained matrix.
