Branchiosaurus fossils on matrix
Lovely Branchiosaurus fossils on matrix stone.
These ancient fossilised amphibians are known as Branchiosaurus. They date from the Permian age around 260 million years ago.
One problem with these fossils is, unfortunately, the name. Their given name is just a single letter off a common, popular dinosaur – Brachiosaurus.
Most specimen pieces are found in the area around Pflaz, in Germany with some other pieces found in Europe.
Because these pieces are natural, some pieces are better preserved than others, so we have showed two pieces in our photographs.
