Aragonite from Minglanilla, Cuenca, Castile-La Mancha, Spain
Aragonite 'sputnik' crystals from Minglanilla. These are labelled originally in Spanish as 'Hoya de los Yesares'. I wasn't able to find a translation of this other than perhaps 'Yesares basin'.
Sputniks are an unusual crystal formation with outward splaying 'arms' that make them look vaguely similar to the old soviet space probe, Sputnik. These forms of Aragonite are quite common from Morocco but Spanish pieces don't often find their way to market.
Some pieces look pretty much the same as the Moroccan specimens - a dark reddy brown. Others are a little more interesting, almost a grey-purple colour. Evidence of their growth is often quite easy to spot.
