These pieces are from the Upper Carboniferous, Pennsylvanian, Coal Shales, Pottsville Formation. St. Clair, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.

I find that plant fossils are a great way to start a fossil collection - they're familiar, but set in stone. They are very different to the 'alien' looking fossils like trilobites. We see leaves and plants most days. 

Our current stock includes a range of lower grade pieces - occasionally we have some high quality pieces which will be photographed individually.

These fossil plants are typically on a dark grey slate coloured piece of matrix rock, with impressions of crushed ferns showing up in a sort of silvery-grey white colour on top.
