Union Carbide Mine

Wilson Springs, Garland County, Arkansas, USA

A former vanadium mine, worked between 1966 and 1985. It is known for fine specimens of micro minerals.

Mindat lists over 60 minerals from the site, including four for which it is the type locality – Donowensite, Mikehowardite, Miserite, and Straczekite. It is also a co-type locality for Malhmoodite, which is found in a few areas around the site.

There are also numerous uncommon and interesting minerals found here.

The name does make searching for information on the mine a little tricky – there are numerous Union Carbide mines across the country, including some more in Arkansas.
