Poudrette quarry

Mont Saint-Hilaire, La Vallée-du-Richelieu RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada

Poudrette quarry is a well known locale amongst mineral collectors, currently known as Carrière Mont Saint-Hilaire.

Poudrette quarry is very well known, but with its history, it has had several other names as it has overtaken old workings, including:

  • Demix or de-mix quarry
  • Uni-mix quarry
  • Desourdy quarry
  • Carrière Mont Saint-Hilaire

The site is now actually called Carrière Mont Saint-Hilaire but the vast majority of the specimens from the site will be labelled as Poudrette or Demix quarry.

Mindat lists over 440 minerals from the site, including 74(!) for which it is the type locality.

Good quality adamsite, analcime, arfvedsonite, catapleiite, corundum, and sodalite can be found here. The majority of the specimens found are likely to appeal to micromount collectors.

It appears collection at the site is strictly limited to 2-3 group visits per year of members of Club de Minéralogie de Montréal.
