Andrade mine
João Monlevade, Minas Gerais, Brazil
The Andrade mine is a large open pit iron mine exploiting hematite and specular hematite.

An uncommon locale – a Brazilian iron ore mine which briefly produced a colourful form of specular hematite which was also known as ‘color rock’.
The material on the market all comes from one large purchase many years ago, as the mine does not offer specimen sales. Understandable.
It is reasonably uncommon to find these specimens well labelled nowadays as much of the provenance has been lost on older collections.
