Paul Island

Nain Complex, Labrador, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

Paul Island is well known amongst collectors for being the first recorded locality for Labradorite.

Showing the single result

As mentioned above, Paul Island is the first recorded location for Labradorite. It is slightly different to a type locality, as labradorite is not a recognised mineral species; it is more of a trade name for a mineral.

Labradorite is best described as a type of Anorthite, which is a calcium rich end member of the plagioclase mineral series between albite-anorthite; a member of the feldspar group.

The main quarry on the island is Ten Mile Bay Quarry, on the west side of the island.
