Mining in Nigeria contributes less than one percent of the nations GDP, but the country is rich in resources.
Nigeria has reserves of coal, lithium, gold, lead, zinc, uranium, iron ore, limestone, and barite, as well as columbite and tantalite (coltan), used to produce niobium and tantalum.
The country also produces gemstones, including ruby, sapphire, emerald, aquamarine, tourmaline, topaz, garnet, amethyst and zircon. None of these seem to be especially well represented on the world state, except perhaps for the beryls – aquamarine and emerald.
Probably the best known locale in Nigeria is the Jos Plateau, which is unfortunately a rather large area.
