Sulphur specimens from Agrigento, Sicily, Italy.
Yellow crystalline sulphur specimens from Agrigento.
These specimens came from an antique collection and the largest piece comes with the paper label original to the specimen, which states "Sulphur, Girgenti, Sicily".
Girgenti is the former name for Agrigento, dating this specimen to around 1927 when the city was renamed. There are numerous specimens on mindat from the locale, few list more specific locations. One suggested locale was Cozzo Disi Mine, Casteltermini, Agrigento Province, Sicily, Italy but I have no way of verifying that.
Some of these specimens grow alongside minor calcite or aragonite, which can be brightly fluorescent under 365nm.
